Prior to the Dutch influence of the 16th century, the world’s carrot crop had once been entirely purple, whereas orange was the mutant variable that Dutch growers sought to isolate as a separate cultivar. Orange has since become the commercial standard while purple heirlooms are mainly found in home garden, specialty stores and farmer’s markets.

Introduced in 2005, Cosmic Purple carrot is a relatively new open-pollinated variety that was met with great enthusiasm by gardeners around the world. Strong, tapered roots reach 7-8" of purple carrot power! Purple on the outside and bright orange on the inside these carrots are a real show stopper.
