Mibuna is one of the most underrated Asian greens and it is a shame that such a gem isn’t more widely grown. This Japanese heirloom is a member of the dento yasai, originating in Mibu, Kyoto prefecture. An early open pollinated variety, this vigorous grower produces a dense cluster of long, narrow, rounded, dark green leaves.

The long leaves are buttery and tender with a mild taste, wonderful in salads or stir fries. This early-to-mature and cold-tolerant green is a perfect addition to the market gardener’s repertoire. No garden should be without this world-class salad favorite!
